[MBFF ASIA] MOTO-BUNKA FILM FESTIVAL 2024 – ENGLISH

The MOTO-BUNKA Film Festival is a video contest in which 10 BMX videos submitted from all over Japan are selected and screened at one of the biggest movie theaters in Tokyo.
For the this year in 2024, the scale will be expanded from Japan to Asia, and a new category, FLATLAND VIDEO OF THE YEAR, will be added 🏆
Who will win the glory of Asia No.1?

What is “MOTO-BUNKA FILM FESTIVAL”?

Last year, 31 videos were entered from all over Japan, and top 10 videos were screened at the movie theater!
An award ceremony was held after the screening for the BEST VIDEO OF THE YEAR, CREATIVE VIDEO OF THE YEAR, and BEST CLIP OF THE YEAR, which was judged and voted by the MBFF official judges.

Q. When and venue for MBFF 2024

MBFF is scheduled to be held at the end of November 2024, and like last year, it will be held at one of the largest movie theaters in Tokyo, with a capacity of 450 people.

((Q&A about MBFF below))

Q. Are there any rules regarding the length (time) of the video to be submitted?

▶︎ BMX videos of more than 3 minutes and less than 6 minutes are requested.

Q. Can I use footage that I have released in the past?

▶︎ We will not be able to determine whether or not the video is publicly available,
Even if the video includes footage that has been previously released, it will still be considered for screening.

However, given that it is a video contest,
However, in light of the fact that this is a video contest, we ask that the video be something that has not been previously published. In that case, the date of shooting is acceptable.
(For example, a footage taken last year or three years ago is also acceptable)

Q. If it is mainly BMX but includes footage of local skaters, is that out of the question in terms of judging criteria?

▶︎ If your video contains footage of other genres as well as skaters, it will still be considered for judging, however, as this is a BMX video contest, the videos will be judged as BMX videos.

Q. Is there a video format (size and file format) for submissions?

▶︎ Basically, we do not have any specifications.
We can handle any size and file format, but since movie theater screens are horizontal, we recommend production in a horizontal format such as 16:9.
We recommend that you use a horizontal format such as 16:9.

The final format is converted to the screening format by the operator and shown in movie theaters.
DCP standard: 1920 x 1080 24 frames

Q. Can I apply even if I use copyrighted music in my video?

▶︎ There are no restrictions on the music you may use in your video, however, please use music at your own risk.
Please obtain permission from the creator or rights management organization before using copyrighted material.
The festival management will not be responsible for any problems that may arise regarding copyrights.

Q. Can I participate in this event with my children?

▶︎ Many parents and children have attended the past two cinema events.
We will be selling tickets for the screening on our online site at a later date.
Of course, non-BMX riders can also purchase tickets for the screening, as we will be selling tickets to the general public.

Q. Are only Japanese nationals eligible to participate in the video contest?

This year’s event has been expanded in size and riders from Asian countries can also enter!

Q. Can I enter both as an individual and as a group?

Possible.

Q. Do you make DVDs of the videos you show?

Under consideration.

Q. Can I put credits or a logo image at the end of the video?

It’s OK.
You are free to include any information you like, such as supported by ????? or the filmer’s name.

Q. Regarding the judging method

A large number of people, including national and international professional BMX riders and people in the BMX industry, will vote for their favorite videos.
Based on the number of votes, 10 videos will be selected to be screened, and the winning videos will be further chosen.
With the addition of the new Flatland category, the number of official MBFF judges will be increased.
